ELTON FERNANDES

This is the fourth post on my blog and it is dedicated to Elton Perpetuo Paixao Fernandes, whom I have known for alsmost two decades now.

Elton and I were classmates in the second and third grades at Indian School Muscat, Oman in the academic years 1989/90 and 1990/91. We got shuffled after the third grade, and were reunited in the tenth grade (in the academic year 1997/98). We were in the same class in the eleventh and twelfth grade (in the academic years 1998/99 and 1999/2000 respectively).

He was born on the second day of June in the village of Taleigao, Goa. A typical Gemini, he possesses all the traits one would associate with people born under the zodiac sign represented by the twins. He is adaptable, versatile, communicative, witty, intellectual, eloquent, youthful and lively.

He is older than his brother by seven years. He is a credit officer by profession. He is a former student of Dempo College in Goa and a masters' degree-holder in business administration from the prestigious Coventry University in the United Kingdom.

Elton is one of the few guys with whom I was in regular touch even after we completed our twelfth grade board examinations. While he moved to Goa (and later to the UK) to pursue further studies, I lived and studied in Pune and worked for a while in Oman.

A couple of months after my return to Mumbai from Oman in 2006, Elton informed me about getting a new job in the credit department at Bajaj Auto Finance Limited, Akurdi (Pune). At the end of 2006, Elton and I met up in Pune after a gap of six years.

During his stint in Pune, he lived in Nigdi, which is located on the outskirts of Pune. I stayed at his house during my visits to the city in 2006 and 2007. He visited Mumbai once and we stayed at his friend's house in Borivali (West), a northern suburb of the city. He left Pune in 2007 and returned to Taleigao. He now works for a reputed bank in his hometown.

Elton is passionate about various kinds of music, loves video and console games, anime, cartoons and movies and is a mobile phone buff. Danielle Steele and Sidney Sheldon are his favourite authors.

He is a gem of a guy. He is honest, hard-working and has a great sense of humour. I hope to stay in touch with him on a more regular basis. Considering that I share everything with him and can have long conversations with him on any topic under the sun, it would not be wrong to call him my best friend. His positive attitude and fun-loving nature enhance his personality a great deal.
