MELWINA ROYAN

MELWINA ROYAN

My friendship with Ms. Melwina Royan, to whom the forty-sixth post on my blog is dedicated, dates back to the last three years of high school at Indian School Muscat, Oman (namely the tenth, eleventh and twelfth grades in the academic years 1997/98, 1998/99 and 1999/2000 respectively).

She is one of the few classmates I am still in touch with after eight years of graduating from high school, thanks to Orkut, and more recently, to Facebook.

Her best feature is her radiant smile. She is a busy human resources professional now.

Known to her close friends as Mel, Ms. Royan is a bubbly, fun-loving girl who has an extremely positive attitude, tremendous enthusiasm and dedication towards everything she does. A hard-worker and perfectionist, she has a very warm, caring and charming personality. If I were to sum it up in a single phrase, she is a gem of a girl.

The ideal candidate for the 'Miss Popular' title, Melwina is a typical Gemini (born on the twenty-sixth day of the month of May). She is adaptable, communicative, witty, versatile, intellectual, eloquent, youthful and lively.

She hails from the city of Bangalore, the capital of the southern Indian state of Karnataka. In fact, when I visited the city earlier this year, I was hoping to meet up with her, but she was out of town on a business trip and it was unfortunate that we couldn't meet up.

Here's wishing her all the very best of luck, happiness and success in all her future endeavours, and hoping we keep in touch.

KESHAL JESRANI

KESHAL JESRANI

The forty-fifth post on my blog is dedicated to Keshal Jesrani, with whom my friendship dates back to the tenth grade at Indian School Muscat, Oman in the year 1997/98.

Keshal is the cousin of Karan Jesrani (to whom the previous post on this blog is dedicated) and Gaurav Jesrani, to whom I will dedicate one of my forthcoming posts. This close-knit family runs a grocery store in Oman.

We lost touch for a gap of two years after the tenth grade, but Keshal was one of the guests at my seventeenth birthday party at my residence in Oman in 1999. In fact, that memorable party was attended by all the three Jesrani cousins.

We promised to keep in touch after that as well, and I kept my word by adding him to my contact list on MSN Messenger. We used to chat occasionally, but could not do so often because of the time difference between the city of St. Louis in the state of Missouri in the United States of America (where he was based) and the cities of Pune and Mumbai in the western Indian state of Maharashtra.

He is a soft-spoken person whose best feature is his smile. In fact, there is a marked contrast in his personality, when compared to those of Karan (who is witty and fun-loving) and Gaurav, the oldest of the trio, who is dignified and sophisticated.

Here's wishing Keshal all the very best of luck, success and happiness in all his future endeavours and hoping we keep in touch.

Born on the twenty-seventh day of the month of November, this typical Sagittarian is optimistic, freedom-loving, jovial, good-humoured, honest, straightforward, intellectual and philosophical.

This cheerful young man has a smile on his face at all times.

When he visited India last year, I contacted him hoping to meet up with him, but I guess he had other social commitments and I was busy with my own schedule, so we could not meet. However I do hope we can catch up on his next visit.

ARUN ABRAHAM

ARUN ABRAHAM

My friendship with Arun Abraham, to whom the twenty-first post on this blog is dedicated, dates back to the sixth grade in the academic year 1993/94 at Indian School Muscat, Oman. We were classmates from the sixth grade to the eighth grade (in the year 1995/96).

Though we lost touch after the eighth grade, we are now back in touch after a gap of twelve years, thanks to Orkut.

In the subsequent paragraphs of this article, I will refer to him by his last name(Abraham) as opposed to his first name (Arun) to avoid confusion with the other Arun in our class (Arun Raj), especially while labelling the post.

I don't know when his birthday falls, so I would not be in a position to comment on whether he possesses the same traits as other people who belong to the same zodiac sign as he does.

However, he is always laughing and has a terrific sense of humour. He has an extremely positive attitude. He now lives and works in Bangalore, the capital of the southern Indian state of Karnataka.

I regret not being able to meet up with him when I visited Bangalore. It would have been great to catch up with him after a gap of about thirteen years, but I guess it was not possible due to his busy schedule and odd work timings.

Anyway, here's hoping we keep in touch and wishing him all the luck, success and happiness in all his future endeavours.

ANGELIQUE BHATTACHARJEE-JEREMIAH

The twentieth post on my blog is dedicated to Ms. Angelique Snigdha Bhattacharjee-Jeremiah. My friendship with her dates back to the sixth grade at Indian School Muscat, Oman in the year 1993/94.

We were classmates for four academic years, that is from the sixth grade to the ninth grade in the year 1996/97. We lost touch after that, because of the fact that I upset her for some reason. I would definitely like to use this blog as a way to express my sincere apology to her.

I would like to also apologise to Angelique for another reason: I do not remember her birthday. I think it falls somewhere in the month of May, which makes her a Taurean. I deduced that because I believe she has a number of traits associated with the zodiac sign represented by the bull: she is patient, reliable, warm-hearted, loving, persistent, determined, placid and security-loving.

She opted for the humanities stream in the eleventh grade. She is now married and lives in Kuwait. She is an extremely stylish and elegant young lady.

Here's wishing her and her husband all the very best of luck, success and happiness in their future endeavours. I don't know if she would like to get in touch with me or not, but my good wishes are always with the ever-smiling Angelique.

AASIA MUNEER

AASIA MUNEER

The nineteenth post on my blog is dedicated to Ms. Aasia Muneer, with whom my friendship dates back to the year 1993/94. We were classmates from the sixth grade (in the academic year 1993/94) to the eighth grade (in the academic year 1995/96) at Indian School Muscat, Oman.

Though we lost touch after the eighth grade, we've got back in touch with each other after a gap of a decade, thanks to Orkut.

She is now married (and a mother to a bonny son), based in Hyderabad (the capital of the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh) and a successful architect by profession.

An avid reader, she was one of the brightest students in our class at school. She is intelligent, independent, understands her responsibilities, carries them out very well and strives to achieve perfection in everything she does,

Born on the fourteenth day of the month of May, Aasia is a typical Taurean. She is patient, reliable, warm-hearted, loving, persistent, determined, placid and security-loving.

Here's wishing Aasia, husband and son all the very best of luck, happiness and success in all their future endeavours and hoping we keep in touch.

SAVIA FERNANDES

SAVIA FERNANDES

My friendship with Ms. Savia Fernandes, to whom the eighteenth post on my blog is dedicated, dates back to the fourth and fifth grades at Indian School Muscat, Oman in the academic years 1991/92 and 1992/93 resepctively. Though we lost touch with each other after the fifth grade, we're now back in touch after a gap of fifteen years, thanks to Orkut.

This slim, shy girl from the western Indian state of Goa, who was born on the twenty-ninth day of the month of December, is a typical Capricorn in many ways. She is practical, prudent, ambitious, disciplined, patient, careful and reserved.

What explains her cheerful demeanour is probably the fact that her birthday falls four days after Christmas Day and three days before New Year's Day, both of which are occasions to spread cheer. It could also be because she hails from the land of sun, sand and sea, where everyone is laid-back, relaxed and has a positive attitude.

She is a hard-working girl. Her family and a small but close-knit group of friends constitute her world.

Here's wishing Savia all the very best of luck, happiness and success in all her future endeavours and hope we continue to keep in touch.

SAMANATA NAIK

SAMANATA NAIK

My friendship with Ms. Samanata Naik, to whom the seventeenth post on this blog is dedicated, dates back to the fourth and fith grades at Indian School Muscat, Oman in the years 1991/92 and 1992/93 resepctively.

Though I lost touch with her after the fifth grade, we got back in touch after a gap of fourteen years, thanks to Orkut. However, the geographical distance (she is now in California and I'm in Mumbai) and our schedules don't permit us to chat with each other as often as we did when we first got back in touch.

Samanata, who has a variety of interests (including watching foreign language films and listening to various genres of music) moved to Dubai and then subsequently to the United States. She was in New York, where she majored in visual arts and graphic design, before moving to the west coast.

She then moved to San Jose State University to pursue her masters' degree in mass communications and now lives and works in San Francisco.

We have three things in common, apart from the Indian School Muscat connection. We are both Librans, we're both students of mass communication and we both have a younger sister whose names are coincidentally the same (Akanksha).

An extremely intelligent, mature and level-headed girl, Samanata is a rare combination of beauty and brains. She is a gem of a person. This bubbly, fun-loving woman, who is always in high spirits, is an excellent companion for a conversation. She has a fantastic sense of humour. If I were to describe her in one word, it would not be incorrect to call her a rock-star.

Born on the twenty-eighth day of the month of September, Samanata (also known as Sam) is diplomatic, urbane, romantic, charming, easygoing, sociable, idealistic and peaceable.

Here's wishing Samanata all the very best of luck, happiness and success in all her future endeavous and hope we keep in touch with each other.

SABEEN KHALIQ

SABEEN KHALIQ

This is the sixteenth post on my blog and it is dedicated to Ms. Sabeen Khaliq. My friendship with her dates back to the academic year 1991/92, when we were in the fourth grade at Indian School Musat, Oman.

We were classmates for five years, from 1991/92 to 1995/96 (from the fourth grade to the eighth grade). We lost touch after that, but we've got back in touch after a gap of about twelve years, thanks to Orkut.

Sabeen is one of the coolest and most fun-loving girls I've ever met. She has a positive attitude and a fantastic sense of humour. Never afraid to speak her mind, this intelligent young lady is extremely honest.

A typical Arien (born on the sixth day of the month of April), she possesses all the traits of the zodiac sign represented by the ram. She is adventurous, energetic, pioneering, confident, enthusiastic, courageous, dynamic and quick-witted.

Extremely stylish and sporty, Sabeen is also a humanities topper in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) twelfth grade examination. She is now married and based in London (England).

In a single word, I'd describe her as a rock-star. Here's wishing Sabeen and her husband all the very best of luck, happiness and success in all their future endeavours and hoping we keep in regular touch with each other.

PENNYANN FERNANDES

PENNYANN FERNANDES

My friendship with Miss Pennyann Fernandes, to whom the fifteenth post on my blog is dedicated, dates back to the fourth and fith grades at Indian School Muscat, Oman in the academic years 1991/92 and 1992/93 respectively.

Close friends call her Penny, and that is the name I am going to use in the subsequent paragraphs to refer to her. I am extremely happy that it took us almost sixteen years to get back in touch with each other.

She is intelligent and independent. Her head is firmly on her shoulders. She is a bright, friendly. smart, bubbly, enthusiastic, energetic, stylish and cool young lady.

Her family and an extremely close-knit group of friends consititute her world. She is a former student of Barnes High School in the town of Deolali near the city of Nashik in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. She now lives and works in the city of Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra.

Penny's four best qualities are her honesty, her expressive eyes, her smile and her terrific sense of humour. Anybody who has met her would vouch for the fact that a conversation with her is a good way to spend some quality time. This is because not only does she have a refreshing clarity of thought, but she is also not afraid to speak her mind and has an opinion on almost everything.

She does everything with a great deal of passion, and it would not be incorrect to call her a perfectionist. Extremely trustworthy, she would be an ideal candidate to compete for a Miss Popular title. This is because of her pleasant personality, good manners, cheerful demeanour and positive attitude.

Here's wishing Penny all the very best of luck, happiness and success in all her future endeavours and hoping we keep in regular touch.

GRETCHEN FERRAO

GRETCHEN FERRAO

The fourteenth post on my blog is dedicated to Ms. Gretchen Ferrao. My friendship with her dates back to the fourth grade at Indian School Muscat, Oman in the year 1991/92. Though I lost touch with her after the fifth grade in the year 1992/93, it is great to be back in touch with her after all these years.

It is always a pleasure to chat with her, because not only is she very clear about what she wants, she is also an extremely intelligent young lady. She always strives to achieve perfection in whatever she does.

She is a writer and editor with an advertising major from the prestigious St. Andrew's College in Bandra (West), a suburb of the city of Mumbai, the capital of the western Indian state of Maharashtra.

A fellow Libran (born on the eighteenth day of the month of October), Gretchen is the epitome of the zodiac sign represented by the scales. She is diplomatic, urbane, charming, romantic, easygoing, sociable, idealistic and peaceable. Her smile is her best feature.

Here's wishing her all the very best of luck and success in whatever she does and hoping we continue to stay in regular touch.

AMEE PARIKH

AMEE PARIKH

My friendship with Ms. Amee Parikh, to whom the thirteenth post on my blog is dedicated, dates back to the fourth grade at Indian School Muscat, Oman in the year 1991/92. We were classmates for five academic years (1991/92 to 1995/96), that is from the fourth grade to the eighth grade. Though we lost touch after middle school, we are now back in touch, thanks to Orkut.

She is one person whom everyone literally tends to look up to, because of her height (she is six feet tall) and out of respect.

Amee, an engineering graduate, is now juggling a course and a job in the city of Middletown in the state of Connecticut in the United States of America.

Apart from the Muscat connection, we also have a Pune connection (both of us completed our graduation in the western Indian city known as the 'Oxford of the East').

Born on the nineteenth day of February, Ms. Parikh is on the cusp of two signs of the zodiac, namely Aquarius and Pisces. She possesses the qualities of both the signs. The Aquarian in her is friendly, humanitarian, honest, loyal, original, inventive, independent and intellectual. The Piscean side of her is imaginative, sensitive, kind, compassionate, selfless, unworldly, intuitive and sympathetic.

Despite the geographical distance between us, we occasionally chat and are very much in touch with each other. I hope we continue to stay in touch. Here's wishing Amee all the very best of luck and success in all her future endeavours.

TEJAS UDANI-GUPTA

TEJAS UDANI-GUPTA

My friendship with Mrs. Tejas Udani-Gupta, to whom the twelfth post on this blog is dedicated, dates back to the days when we were six years old and wore a white shirt and tiny blue-chequered uniform. I first met her in the year 1989/90 (we were classmates in the second and third grades). We lost touch for a while after the third grade (in the year 1990/91), but thanks to Orkut, we are back in touch and it is a pleasure to chat with her after all these years.

She is an extremely headstrong and tough woman who is never afraid to speak her mind. If I were to describe her in one word, it would have to be the word 'bindaas' (the Hindi word for free-spirited).

Extremely spunky and fun-loving, Tejas (the oldest of three sisters) is refreshingly honest and cool. She believes in living life on her own terms, queen-size. Born on the seventeenth day of the month of October, this ever-smiling Libran is urbane, romantic, charming and sociable. She is also extremely level-headed and practical.

She was upset at me for not attending her wedding a year ago in Mumbai, forgetting to wish the couple on their first wedding anniversary and on the day their son Rishab was born, but this post is my way of apologising to her.

Family and friends mean the world to Tejas. Once she makes friends, they are usually her friends forever. Marriage to Shreyansh Gupta and motherhood seem to have had a positive impact on her, and I have never seen her happier.

I have nicknamed her TUG, which stands for Tejas Udani-Gupta, her name post-marriage. Here's wishing TUG and Shreyansh a very long and happy married life and all the luck, happiness and success to the Gupta family and hoping we keep in touch.

SHIJIN THOMAS

SHIJIN THOMAS

My friendship with Ms. Shijin Thomas, to whom the eleventh post on my blog is dedicated, dates back to the second and third grades at Indian School Muscat, Oman in the academic years 1989/90 and 1990/91 respectively.

Shijin is an extremely fun-loving girl whose best feature is her smile. A typical Gemini woman (born on the eleventh day of the month of June), she is adaptable, communicative, versatile, witty, intellectual, eloquent, youthful and lively.

She has a positive attitude, a fantastic sense of humour and is never afraid to speak her mind. It is always a pleasure chatting with her, because her thoughts are extremely clear.

A stylish girl with loads of spunk, she is now on the other side of the globe from where I am. She's moved to the west coast of the United States (namely, the state of California) from the east coast (namely, the state of New York), and works with a top accounting firm.

I feel extremely fortunate to have a great friend like her and wish her all the luck, success and happiness. I certainly hope we keep in touch on a more regular basis, despite our schedules (and of course the time zones we're in).

SALEHA (ALIA) BANU KHAN

SALEHA (ALIA) BANU KHAN

The tenth post on my blog is dedicated to Ms. Saleha Banu Khan, also known as Alia Khan. She will be referred to as Alia in the forthcoming paragraphs of this post.

My friendship with Alia dates back to the second and third grades at Indian School Muscat, Oman in the academic years 1989/90 and 1990/91 respectively. We lost touch after the third grade, but thanks to Orkut, we recently got back in touch after a gap of about seventeen years and it is great to see her after all these years.

She is a spunky lass. In fact, she was born under the zodiac sign Leo (on the fourth day of the month of August) and has a number of qualities in common with a lioness. She is firecely proud of her achievements, extremely generous, warm-hearted, creative, enthusiastic, broad-minded. faithful and loving.

Her family and friends, most of whom she has known for a long time, constitute her world. Extremely talented and passionate about work, this globe-trotter added another feather to her cap when she went to the city of Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, to work as a scriptwriter for television serials.

This girl is extremely ambitious and has her head on her shoulders. She is short-tempered but extremely cool, witty and bubbly. Her intellect is her biggest asset.

Here's hoping Alia keeps rocking and we keep in touch with each other and wishing her a great deal of luck and success in all her future endeavours.

PURVI RAMAIYA

PURVI RAMAIYA

The ninth post on my blog is dedicated to Ms. Purvi Ramaiya, whom I have known for almost two decades.

She was my classmate in the ifrst two academic years after I joined Indian School Muscat, Oman, namely the second and third grades (in the year 1989/90 and 1990/91 respectively) and then, after a gap of eight long years, we found ourselves in the same class in the eleventh and twelfth grades (in the year 1998/99 and 1999/2000 respectively).

She now resides in Mumbai, where she is currently pursuing a competitive course (cost and management accountancy). She has always been a bright student and has her head firmly on her shoulders.

She is bubbly and fun-loving. Her best feature is her smile. Having known her since we were six years old, I can safely vouch for the fact that once she makes friends, they are usually her friends for life. She is an eternal optimist.

A typical Scorpio (born on the twelfth day of the month of November), Purvi possesses all the traits of people born under that sign of the zodiac. She is determined, emotional, forceful, intuitive, passionate, powerful and magnetic.

Here's hoping we continue to stay in touch and wisihng her all the very best of luck and a great deal of success in all her future endeavours.

PEARL D'SOUZA

PEARL D'SOUZA

The eighth post on this blog is dedicated to Ms. Pearl Judith D'Souza, affectionately known to her friends as Pearly. She is literally a gem of a person. My friendship with her dates back to the second and third grades at Indian School Muscat, Oman in the academic years 1989/90 and 1990/91 respectively.

Born on the thirteenth day of October (the same day as yours truly), she is a true-blue Libran. In fact, it took me almost seventeen years to get back in touch with her and even longer, perhaps, to find out that we share a birthday. However, it made my 25th birthday an extremely special occasion.

She hails from the city of Udupi in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. She has an extremely positive attitude (no matter what the odds), a warm personality and a charming smile (which is her best feature). Her infectious enthusiasm rubs off on all the people who know her.

A simpleton at heart, Pearl now lives in London, England and is busy with her career as a clinical pharmacist.

Here's wishing Pearly all the very bet of luck and success in all her future endeavours and hoping we keep in touch with each other.

PALLAVI BARAT

PALLAVI BARAT

The seventh post on my blog is dedicated to Ms. Pallavi Barat. She is another person with whom my friendship dates back to almost twenty years. I first met her in the second grade in the academic year 1989/90 at Indian School Muscat, Oman. We were classmates in the third grade in the academic year 1990/91, before the shuffling of our divisions.

This well-travelled lady, who left Oman in the sixth grade, has lived in three of the four ndian metropolitan cities, namely New Delhi (the national capital and the northern metropolis), Mumbai (the capital of the western Indian state of Maharashtra) and Kolkata (the capital of the eastern Indian state of West Bengal).

A fellow Libran, Pallavi was born on the nineteenth day of October, and she possesses all the qualities of a typical Libran, namely she is diplomatic, urbane, romantic, charming, easygoing, sociable, idealistic and peaceable.

With the confidence she exudes and her radiant smile (which, apart from her eyes, is her best feature), she would have been an asset to the hospitality industry (she pursued a course in hotel management), but chose to pursue a course which is as different from hospitality management as chalk is from cheese, namely dispute resolution.

She now lives in the city of Townsville in the Australian state of Queensland. An avid quizzer, she is a fan of actor Shah Rukh Khan, the Badshah of Bollywood.

Here's wishing Pallavi all the very best of luck and success in all her future endeavours. I certainly do hope to keep in touch with her.

MEGHNA SHARMA

MEGHNA SHARMA

Forgetting a friend's birthday cannot be excused, particularly if the friend in question is someone you've known for nearly two decades. Ms. Meghna Sharma, to whom the sixth post on my blog is dedicated, is one such person whom I forgot to wish on the occasion of her birthday recently. If she is reading this, I apologise because I just couldn't keep track of her birthdate. If she had mentioned it in her Orkut profile, I would have definitely wished her on the special occasion. Sorry for the belated greetings, but here's wishing Meghna a very happy birthday and any happy returns of the day.

My friendship with her dates back to the second and third grades (in the academic years 1989/90 and 1990/91 respectively) at Indian School Muscat. Our divisions were shuffled after third grade, but we were reunited as classmates in the eleventh and twelfth grades (in the academic years 1998/99 and 1999/2000 respectively).

She is a quiet, reserved, soft-spoken girl who is always smiling. In fact, her radiant smile is her best feature and indicates that she has an extremely positive attitude at all times.

Her world revolves around her family, her work and a close-knit group of friends. She is mature and level-headed.

She pursued commerce in the eleventh and twelfth grades in school, but opted to pursue a bachelor's degree in hospitality management. With the warmth she exudes and the charming smile that is a vital part of her personality, it is no suprise that she is now a successful professional in the hospitality industry.

Here's wishing Meghna all the very best of luck and hoping she scales great heights in her chosen area of specialisation. I also hope to keep in regular touch with her despite te time constraints and commitments that we both have to fulfil.

JUBIN JOSEPH KURIAN

JUBIN JOSEPH KURIAN

The fifth post on my blog is dedicated to my close friend of nearly two decades, Jubin Joseph Kurian. My friendship with him dates back to the academic year 1989/90, when I joined Indian School Muscat, Oman. We were classmates in the second and third grades (in 1989/90 and 1990/91 respectively). We were shuffled after third grade but Jubin and I found ourselves in the same class in the ninth grade in the academic year 1996/97.

Originally from the city of Kottayam in the southern Indian state of Kerala, he now lives and works in the city of Bangalore, the capital of the southern Indian state of Karnataka.

He chose to pursue humanities in the eleventh and twelfth grades at Indian School Muscat. After completing his twelfth grade in 2000, he returned to India to complete his bachelors' and masters' degrees, specialising in psychology. He is a now a successful counsellor in Bangalore.

His smile is his best feature. Like me, he is also a Libran (which probably explains why we get along so well). He was born on the fourth day of the month of October. Like most people born under the zodiac sign represented by the scales, he is diplomatic, urbane, romantic, charming, easygoing, sociable, idealistic and peaceable.

Jubin's world revolves around his family, work and a close-knit group of friends. He is reserved, keeps his cool at all times and is extremely level-headed and mature.

Trustworthy, hardworking, caring, confident and warm are some other adjectives one would associate with Jubin. I am sure these qualities hold him in good stead both in his personal and professional life. He is a gem of a guy.

I hope our friendship continues to grow and would love to keep in regular touch with him.
